BELGRADE, 5 December 2013 \u2013 The Italian Government donated Serbia an advanced IT tool for data management, developed by the Italian Anti-Mafia Directorate, to increase Serbia\u2019s criminal investigations efficiency and strengthen its international co-operation in fighting organised crime and corruption.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe donation is the result of a long and fruitful collaboration between our two Countries and we have always ranked co-operation in fighting organised crime highly on our agendas. This also confirms Italy\u2019s determination to assist Serbia in the EU negotiations process, especially on the chapters related to judiciary and home affairs\u201d said the Italian Ambassador, Giuseppe Manzo. <\/p>\n

A presentation event of the donation, co-organized by the Italian Embassy to Serbia, the Serbian Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and the OSCE Mission to Serbia, has taken place today in the Court Room \u201cGiovanni Falcone\u201d of the Special Court Building of Belgrade and has been opened by the Serbian Minister of Justice, Mr. Nikola Selakovic, the Ambassador of Italy to Serbia, Mr. Giuseppe Manzo and the Head of the OSCE Mission to Serbia, Mr. Peter Burkhard. The Prosecutors for the Fight against Organized Crime of Italy and Serbia, Mr. Franco Roberti and Mr. Miljko Radisavljevic have also addressed the audience.<\/strong> <\/p>\n

Organized Crime Prosecutor Miljko Radisavljevic, pointed out that the donated software will enable his prosecution office to expand and improve its data basis, ensure data confidentiality and increase its ability to access and analyse different types of information. \u201cIt will further strengthen our capacity to fight organised crime and corruption and I am grateful to Italy and the OSCE for this support\u201d \u2013 prosecutor Radisavljevic said.<\/p>\n

The OSCE Mission to Serbia will support the Organized Crime Prosecution Office to become fully acquainted with the new system, ensuring its adaptation and delivering specialized training for the users. The first phase of the project, currently funded by Italy and US, will start in January 2014. However continuation of activities will require additional fund-raising.
