Povodom stogodi\u0161njice od ulaska Italije u Prvi svetski rat, Balkanolo\u0161ki institut SANU u Beogradu, zajedno sa Katedrom za politi\u010dke nauke Univerziteta u Bariju \u201cAldo Moro\u201d i Italijanskim institutom za kulturu, organizuje kongres posve\u0107en analizi italijansko-srpskih odnosa tokom ovog konflikta.<\/p>\n
Predvi\u0111eno je da na tri okrugla stola u\u010destvuju profesori i istori\u010dari iz Italije i Srbije koji \u0107e govoriti o specifi\u010dnim aspektima odnosa
izme\u0111u dve zemlje u raznim fazama rata, od sukoba sa drugim silama na po\u010detku borbi do jugoslovenskog pitanja odmah po zavr\u0161etku rata.<\/p>\n

Govor ambasadora Italije Djuzepea MANCA<\/strong>:<\/p>\n Let me thank for the hospitality the Director of the Institute of Balkan Studies, prof. Du\u0161an Batakovi\u0107 and deputy director Professor Vojislav Pavlovic. A special welcome to the delegation from Italy lead by prof. Luciano Monzali and with him professors Riccardi, Caccamo, Milano and Pisarri.<\/p>\n In 1915, one hundred years and a few months ago, Italy went to war. The opening of a new front made many believe that war would soon get to an end. Illusion of a quick solution rapidly faded away. It became clear that it would be a long war, fought inch by inch in many throughout our Continent and beyond.<\/p>\n It became clear that this was going to be a war millions and millions would directly and longly feel on themselves, in flash and blood, and in their minds, both on the front lines and back home.<\/p>\n It was going to be a peoples war.<\/p>\n Historians investigate, intepret and tell events. How they happened. How they shaped history. Diplomats, also based on your works, are committed to advise and work for respective governments on avdancing their international relations while pursuing their national interest.<\/p>\n Why am I telling you this? Because last year we tried to do exactely this when, to mark the Centennial of the War, we wanted to show -few hundred meters from the crosses remembering 1064 Italian soldiers- that even in the darkest moments of history peoples and bonds among people make a difference.<\/p>\n To commemorate the Great War, here in Belgrade, we chose a story of solidarity and friendship between peoples.<\/p>\n These very days of December, one hundred years ago, Italian Navy was preparing one of the biggest humanitarian rescue operation to protect Serbian soldiers and civilians from Central Powers push.<\/p>\n When it ended almost 300 thousand were saved. It eventualy had relevant strategic effects on the outcome of the war. But -and this is my point- it also proved to be an exemple of the extraordinary solidarity among peoples and the friendship between Italian and Serbian peoples.<\/p>\n Together with Serbian Prime Minister we remembered this past event while reaffirming our countries\u2019 commitment to a future based on the values of the European family to which both our peoples belong.<\/p>\n At that time I reiterated Italian longstanding position in support of Serbia\u2019s European path and I am very glad that we are gathering here in Belgrade at a time Belgrade\u2019s European future looks closer witht the upcoming opening of the first two chapters of the negotiations for Serbia\u2019s accession to the EU in the next weeks.<\/p>\n If history has tought us anything about this country and this region is that Serbia, Balkans\u2019 place is in Europe.
